Course Types

Seminars are the most involved type of class, spanning multiple months and subjects. Seminars are organized by a particular objective or research goal, with participants contributing their own work to the greater project and applying theory/skills with our support.

Practicals focus on teaching and reinforcing skills, arts, and abilities. Practicals usually run 2-3 weeks, with different “homework” assignments between classes to put newly developed skills to the test with review and direct, personalized feedback.

Virtual lessons around a particular topic or as part of an ongoing series. Classes are usually a combination of lecture and discussion. Subject-focused and meant to be finished in one or two sessions, classes reinforce the Framework and teach unique topics of interest.

Practical: Spirit Cartography

Drawing on The Horizon Framework and “The Magician’s Ascent”, we will delve deep into the mystical journey. Participants will develop a biography on a mystical or historical figure of their choosing, mapping the Magician’s Ascent onto their life story and identifying where it fails. Sessions will focus on each of the five stages: the cave, the desert, the forest, the fields, and the abyss itself. During the sixth and final session, participants will share their research findings.

Over the course of the seminar, you will learn how to identify your place along the Ascent, what it means to be a magician, the powers we serve and become, as well as how to know if the full climb is truly what you want. Seminar will run seven weeks with week six being research support/presentation prep.

Class: Energy Mapping Basics

Chess and its cultural equivalents across the world have been teaching people to think beyond simple interactions to see the whole battlefield. Using this age-old game on two levels, you will learn how to protect yourself from attackers without ever having to actually take a move. By learning how to think in terms of sieges and spiritual ecology instead of fantasy fire-fights, you will be able to create significantly more powerful protections with far less effort and energy on your part. Most importantly, you will learn how to stop living in fear of the Other and start seeing the fun in the scuffles of life.

We’ll kick off with developing a better understanding of yourself: what are your strengths, weaknesses, and what do you think you could potentially do to better keep yourself safe? We’ll walk through different protective magics together in class, breaking apart the various elements shared between them and using those to start building your own, personalized field of magics. Using a literal chessboard and a couple pieces, you can take these three weeks and build your own magical protections that would normally take years to cultivate!

Class: Principles of Protection

Most people in the English-speaking magical traditions know about the “veil of white light” or similar protective concepts. These active expressions of magic are also where most conversation around spiritual protection stops. There might be more complicated visualizations or shapes for that light, but spiritualism’s goal is primarily to manifest spirits, not push them away or extend their own. That’s where we tap into Taoist masters and their mental techniques, still used today to help people in extreme memory contests.

This class isn’t just theory: you’ll be putting everything you learn to practice as soon as you learn it! From magical sparring matches to your own little side quest searching for and dispelling dangerous spirits, you will come to better understand how protection is not a question of winning fights, but of cultivating an ecosystem that defends itself against invaders and disruptions. This class serves as a crash-course for practitioners and magicians looking to enhance their on-the-go magical capabilities.
