"Spirit Cartography" Using Maps to See the Spiritual World
“Spirit Cartography” combines magic with modern science, showing you how to use Google Maps to see where spirits are, what kind of spirits they are, and even why certain areas are prone to good or bad things. Starting with basic principles of feng shui and using the Horizon Framework, we will cover how physical energy and magical energy follow similar rules and logics. We will see how “As Above, So Below” works as an equals sign, allowing us to discern aspects of the spiritual by studying the physical. From whether a particular creek will carry purifying energy through a city center or become a festering cesspool of malicious spirits can all be discerned from a simple map! Once we’ve gotten a sense for how to read and use maps, it’s time to get out there and actually chart the terrain! By the end of the three weeks, you will be able to better identify the magical qualities of a space, understand how physical ecosystems affect magical ones, and ways to change your physical surroundings to improve your magical ones!
The first class kicks off with a deep dive into the relationship between physical and spiritual properties. Why is iron good at harming spirits? Why do we use glass to hold potions instead of metal or clay? Once you have an understanding of the micro, we can apply that to the macro level and start to understand how the shape of the land itself affects the magical qualities of an area. Before class 2, you’ll use Google Maps to start looking for interesting magical locations and share them out with the class. Then during that session, we’ll walk through real life examples of how I’ve used spirit cartography to solve magical issues, from nightmares to a childhood plagued by spirits of the dead. You’ll also learn how to remedy these situations as much as possible. With that swirling around your mind, we wrap up the course with class 3: how to tap into the flow of magic around you to enhance your magics! Everything from where you put your altar to which forest grove to pray in can be mapped to the terrain if you know what you’re looking for between the abstract and material. Soon, you will!
By the end of the class, you will:
be able to read mundane maps with a magical lens, identifying points of high and low magical energy
identify how physical structures create and alter spiritual circumstances; remedies for these problems
where to tap into the greatest source of power that benefits your particular magic and purpose
